FiberOne Street Commissioned in Anthony, Lagos: Lighting Up Communities Through CSR

Lagos, Nigeria – On August 6, 2026, FiberOne Broadband marked a defining moment in its community engagement journey with the official commissioning of FiberOne Street in Anthony Village, Lagos. Community leaders, elected officials, traditional rulers, members of the press, and residents gathered to witness the culmination of promises made, and more importantly, promises kept.

Formerly known as Ayanboye Street, the newly renamed FiberOne Broadband Street represents far more than a change of name on a signpost. It is a government-approved recognition of a company that chose to show up for its community through action, and not just words.

But the street naming was only part of the story.

Lighting the Streets: 60 Solar Lights Confirmed Operational

As the centrepiece of its CSR commitment to the Mende and Anthony communities, FiberOne Broadband installed 60 solar-powered street lights across five streets, streets that were often dark and unsafe after sunset. All 60 lights were confirmed fully operational during a night-time walk-through conducted across every installation location. For residents who had navigated these roads in darkness for years, the transformation was immediate and visible.

Community Street(s) Lights Installed
Anthony Village Olorunlogbon Street & Alade Lawal Street (Police Station) 25 solar lights
Mende Atiba Osbourne Street, Salami Street & Adesoye Street 35 solar lights
TOTAL 5 Streets 60 Solar Lights ✓ All Operational

As the centrepiece of its CSR commitment to the Mende and Anthony communities, FiberOne Broadband installed 60 solar-powered street lights across five streets, streets that were often dark and unsafe after sunset. All 60 lights were confirmed fully operational during a night-time walk-through conducted across every installation location. For residents who had navigated these roads in darkness for years, the transformation was immediate and visible.

"We felt that because we operate within communities, those communities should feel our presence and benefit from our operations. Where better to start than the community where we have made our home?"

– Kenny Joda, Head of Legal & Regulatory, FiberOne Broadband

A Historic Renaming: Ayanboye Street Becomes FiberOne Street

The official commissioning of FiberOne Broadband Street marked one of the first times a Nigerian broadband company has had a public street named in its honour: a distinction that reflects years of operational presence, relationship building, and community investment in Anthony Village.

The renaming followed a formal process involving community leaders, the Anthony Central CDA, and Kosofe Local Government, and carries full government backing.

"FiberOne has done a very great job and has added value to the Anthony community since its establishment. That is why the community is also giving back to FiberOne by honouring the company with the renaming of this street. Ordinarily, if FiberOne had not demonstrated that it was up to the task, the community might not have considered such recognition."

— Hon. Gbenga David, Councillor Representing Anthony Village

Road Improvement: Preparing FiberOne Street for Asphalt

In addition to the solar lighting installation, FiberOne undertook road improvement works on FiberOne Street itself. The company graded the road to the specifications required for asphalt paving, a preparatory step carried out in collaboration with Kosofe Local Government.

"We have discussed with the Local Government that if we grade the road to the required specification, they will be able to include it in a supplementary budget before the end of the year, after which the Lagos State Government can asphalt the road."

— Kenny Joda, Head of Legal & Regulatory, FiberOne Broadband

Although the rains delayed the movement of materials from Abeokute on the day of the event, Kenny Joda confirmed that works would be completed within 24 hours. FiberOne has committed to following up with the Local Government to ensure the asphalting proceeds as agreed.

Community Leaders Speak: What This Milestone Means

Mr. Gbolahan Adesoga — Chairman, Anthony Central CDA

The CDA Chairman, whose direct engagement with FiberOne’s team helped shape the delivery of the project, had one clear message for the community. Adesoga noted that despite some early concerns over construction materials near community drainage, the project team responded constructively and maintained a good working relationship throughout.

"FiberOne will not die. Anthony will continue to grow. I will encourage the residents of Anthony to support and patronise FiberOne. The activities of FiberOne in the community will encourage residents to support the company."

— Mr. Gbolahan Adesoga, Chairman, Anthony Central CDA

Representative of the Baale of Mende

The Mende community’s representative – Mr. Durojai Olumuywa, speaking on behalf of Baale Adeyemo, spoke to what the delivery of these solar lights meant in a broader context:

"The last time Mr. Joda came to Mende and spoke about providing street lights, I initially wondered whether it would actually happen, because many people make promises to communities without fulfilling them. However, immediately after that engagement, the poles and materials were already being provided. I commend FiberOne for this."

— Representative of the Baale of Mende

Chief Adekunle Alaba Ogunlowo – Representative of the Baale of Anthony

Chief Ogunlowo, Personal Assistant to the community leader Chief Ayola Yusuf Kosini, attended on behalf of the Baale of Anthony – who was unavoidably absent due to an emergency meeting of the Council of Baales at Alausa. He conveyed the Baale’s congratulations and warm support for the initiative.

Hon. Abayomi Elugbindi – Councillor, Orile-Oworonshoki Ward B

The event also attracted representation from Orile-Oworonshoki, a neighbouring community where FiberOne plans to extend its CSR activities. Hon. Elugbindi’s deputy, Benjamin, welcomed the possibility of similar investments coming to their area:

"If FiberOne decides to extend these initiatives to Orile-Oworonshoki, we will welcome the company wholeheartedly."

— Representative, Orile-Oworonshoki Ward B

The FiberOne Community Relations Model

The commissioning of FiberOne Street is not just a CSR milestone — it is proof of a community relations model that actually works. Kenny Joda summarised the lesson:

"When you enter a community and clearly demonstrate what you intend to do for the community, you receive significant support. At the moment, we do not have issues whenever we are working in these two communities. Nobody disturbs our operations, and the traditional leaders have given us the assurance that if anyone raises an issue, we should come directly to them."

— Kenny Joda, Head of Legal & Regulatory, FiberOne Broadband

This operational goodwill is not accidental. It is the result of consistent engagement with traditional institutions, transparent communication, and the willingness to follow through – even when rain, logistics, or timelines create friction.

FiberOne’s CSR journey began formally over two years ago. The company has since built working relationships with the Baales of Anthony and Mende, the Anthony Central CDA, elected councillors, and community associations. These relationships are now the foundation for expanding CSR activities into Orile-Oworonshoki and other communities within FiberOne’s operational footprint.

Looking Ahead: Employment, Empowerment, and Expansion

Community leaders used the occasion to voice their expectations for the next phase of the FiberOne–community partnership. A recurring request: employment and empowerment opportunities for local youth.

"As FiberOne grows, we want the company to help build human capital within the community, particularly among young school leavers who are currently roaming the streets. Where opportunities arise, we would like FiberOne to provide employment opportunities for them."

— Hon. Gbenga David, Councillor Representing Anthony Village

Mr. Adesoga echoed the sentiment, committing the CDA’s support to advocating within the community:

"The collaboration is already strong, and it will become even stronger. Our expectation is that FiberOne should continue to improve its operations and services. I know they are good, and they will continue to be good."

— Mr. Gbolahan Adesoga, Chairman, Anthony Central CDA
