FiberOne at ATCON: Why Policy and Regulation Are the Real Drivers of FTTH Broadband Penetration in Nigeria

Broadband penetration in Nigeria is not simply a matter of laying more fibre. It requires the right policies, governance frameworks, and regulatory alignment to turn nationwide connectivity into reality.

FiberOne’s Chief Technology Officer, Adetola Akinmade, and Head of Commercial, Omotola Olajubu, represented the company at a high-level panel discussion organised by the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON). The session focused on Policy, Governance, and Regulatory Alignment for Driving FTTH Broadband Penetration in Nigeria, bringing together regulators, industry leaders, and infrastructure stakeholders.

Fiber Is Critical National Infrastructure

One message cut through the panel clearly: fibre infrastructure is not just cables and equipment. It is critical national infrastructure that powers Nigeria’s digital economy.

Adetola Akinmade pointed to the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) policy, along with the efforts of LASIMRA and other regulatory bodies, as meaningful progress toward building investor confidence. These frameworks, he noted, are what give infrastructure providers the assurance needed to accelerate broadband rollout.

Akinmade’s closing point was equally clear: strong policies without consistent enforcement fall short. It is implementation, not just intent, that will unlock investment, protect infrastructure assets, and drive meaningful FTTH penetration across Nigeria’s cities and communities.

FiberOne’s Commitment to a Connected Nigeria

At FiberOne, our position remains unchanged: building a connected Nigeria is a shared responsibility. We continue to work alongside regulators, policymakers, and industry partners to expand access to reliable, high-speed broadband for more homes, businesses, and communities across the country.
